Every year SFUSD has approximately 800 foster youth, and on any given day, one of them may be in your school. Due to the complexities in a foster youth's life, foster youth are suspended at a higher rate, perform below grade level, are held back in school, and have lower graduation rates than their peers. Participants will learn about the unique needs of foster youth and the different systems involved in their care. You will leave with strategies on how to provide safe and supportive schools that promote the social emotional learning and improved academic outcomes of foster youth.
